HTML <output> tag

Definition

The <output> tag is used for representing the result of a calculation.

The <output> tag was introduced in HTML5.

Attributes

The following attributes can be used with the <output> tag.

Attribute Value Description Example
namenameSpecifies a name for the <output> tag.

<output name="someName">Initial value</output>
forelement_idSpecifies an explicit relationship made between a calculated result and the elements representing the values used for the calculation.

Space separated list representing the ID attributes of the form elements used in the calculation.

The for attribute must match the id attributes of the control elements used to create the result of the calculation.
